The deputy senate president, Prof Ike Ekweremadu is really enjoying his political dominance in Enugu politics but 2019 may not be that savvy for him.
Ekweremadu wants everything to himself.
He has positioned himself to be nominated as the PDP Vice Presidential candidate. He is also running for senate to become the next senate president if PDP wins majority in 2019. He also wants to remain the Deputy Senate president in the manner APC wins slight majority.
All these are his permutations.
His biggest problem is who will hold in trust the Enugu west senatorial PDP ticket for him.
The National Assembly and Presidential election will hold on the same day, February 16 next year.
If Ike Ekweremadu is nominated as vice presidential candidate, he will not stand for election for senate. If PDP loses at the election, he will be retired politically as his dominance and relevance will wane.
However, Ike Ekweremadu from AIF Media source wants a surrogate who will run for senate and hold the mandate for him. Jim Nwobodo had such arrangement in 1999, where Uche Nnaji who had won the senatorial election and duly declared winner by INEC stepped down for Jim days after the election.
Ike is looking for a core loyalist who can step down for him should he get nominated by as PDP Vice Presidential and his patty loses the 2019 election.
AIF Media gathered that the DSP is yet to formally declare to contest any election as it is becoming clear to him that he can not be allowed to eat his cake and still have it.
It worked for Jim in 1999, this is 2018.
Ike should decide quickly. If he is vying for PDP vice presidential slot, he should allow someone else, a capable hand from his zone to run for senate.
