Sir Ahmadu Bello encourages female students on the art of reading, Northern Nigeria, c.1959.


Premier of the Northern Region, Alhaji (Sir) Ahmadu Bello, established the first female college in the North, the Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin, in May, 1956, to cater for the girl-child education. The school was formally opened on November 21, 1957 with 54 students. #HistoryVille
